One of the biggest privacy concerns in the modern age revolves around social networking. Facebook rules the roost today, with hundreds of millions of unique users all around the globe. Facebook’s new privacy statement effectively states that if your profile information and pictures are not hidden intentionally by you, set to a certain level of privacy manually, then anyone will be able to view that information and those pictures. And not only that, but that information may be acquired by third party companies either directly through Facebook or through search engines.

This is a grave concern to privacy advocates. But, while Facebook is not about to change this policy any time soon, this guide will explain to you how Facebook’s privacy settings work, and will allow you to quickly and effectively set them to your desired level.

When you first login to Facebook or create your account, you’ll notice some different menu options on the left-hand side of the screen and across the top. In order to set your privacy settings to your desired specifications, head on up to “Account” by clicking once, and then “Privacy Settings.” You’ll notice that you can modify privacy settings according to five separate categories: profile information, contact information, applications and websites, search visibility and a block list.

Profile information includes the simple description of yourself that you typed up during account creation, your birthday, interests, political and religious views, family and relationships, education and work experiences, photos, videos and posts by you and your friends. Contact information includes any email addresses, phone numbers, websites and physical addresses entered into your profile by you. For these two sections, there are four basic setting levels for each subcategory: only friends, friends of friends, friends and networks and everyone. Only friends limits that information to people you have already given permission to view your profile to. Friends of friends gives that information to your existing friends, as well as their friends. Friends and networks gives that information to everyone up to this point as well as the academic, professional or geographic network you have chosen to be a part of. And finally, everyone allows anyone and everyone to view that information. So, choose your desired setting level carefully.

The next section involves Facebook applications and websites. Your settings here will be set with what Facebook applications can read on your profile, as well as what your friends can give permission to their applications with regard to your profile. You can also set your profile to ignore application requests or block specific applications here. The next section is the search section, where you can set the limits on who can find you on Facebook using what information they already have about you, such as email addresses or your name. This section also includes the ability for you to block search engines from listing your profile information externally from Facebook. The final section is the block list. This works in an obvious way: enter in the name and email of anyone you want blocked from viewing your profile in any capacity and it will be so.

With this knowledge, Facebook’s privacy policy becomes less of an issue to you. Just make sure to keep alert for Facebook privacy policy changes in the future. And the same goes with other social networking sites.

1) Make a point of following people who you are associated with already, such as your friends, clients and folks who work with you, keeping in mind that there is a vital difference between these individuals and those who you might decide to follow just to increase how many followers you actually have.

2) Once you have some followers, it would be a good idea to then follow the people who know and follow those followers, meaning they have the same interests. This can be done automatically or you can do it manually.

3) Always follow the people who tweet the most instead of those who may just do that once a week or so. There are free websites where you can get information on prospective followers, like how many times they have tweeted recently and the number of tweets they received.

4) Be aware of those automated services that will spam you, including get-rich-quick links and offers to help find you followers. Do not automatically follow them back until you have checked out what they are tweeting and if there is even a picture on their profile.

5) Try to check your Twitter feed at least once a day in the beginning. After some time, you will be able to do this less frequently. See what the people you are following are saying and learn about them so that your interactions with them are positive.

6) You will eventually reach a point where it will become quite hard to keep track of all the people you are following. This is when Twitter Lists will be extremely helpful to you in managing everyone. Some suggestions are to put those folks who are tweeting about similar subjects onto one list and those who tweet the same amount of time onto another list.

7) It is common for people to tweet about aspects of their personal life, as well as work, so remember to be yourself. For example, if someone happens to be talking about a recipe that they are trying out, and you really like to cook, you could make some suggestions to them and then check with them the next day to see how things went.

You will see that this information will go a long way towards helping you to get the most you can from the Twitter experience. Staying focused on providing useful information along with looking for information that is of interest to you is what it’s about. People will be using Twitter for many years to come, so take note of these helpful tips and tweet away!

One said “Friends are the roses of life: pick them carefully and avoid the thorns” and another said “Everyone is a friend, until they prove otherwise”. Both of these contradicting each other and grabbing my attention, I began to think about them and as I thought about it, almost immediately my mind jumped to the now very common Orkut and Facebook and all such other social networking sites and the idea of a friends list. I began to wonder, how many of those two hundred and three hundred word long friends lists were filled with genuine friends. But then, who decides who is ‘genuine’?

Just think about it. The first quote that I introduced you to advocates that you choose your friends carefully, take time, see who is genuine, who will stick by you (the roses) and who is fake and is with you for different shallow reasons and personal gains (the thorns). The second quote on the other hand tells you that everyone is your friend till there is some evidence against it, that is, it tells you to treat everyone equally as your friends until something happens so that you know that they are not or do not deserve to be your friends. So what would you do when you are a part of the social media, when you are a part of these social networking sites? Do you only add the people you know well, people who have been your friends from quite some time? Do you keep everyone else out as the thorns and choose only these roses who you have known for long? Or, do you add everyone who sends you a request and treat them as your friends as the second quote says till they do you some wrong?

If you try to sort this dilemma, you will notice discrepancies on both sides. If you add only the people you know, no doubt you are relatively safe or rather your information is safe, but are you really socially networking? Networking socially yes, but then of what use is this because in all probabilities you are already in contact and networking with these people offline. The whole idea of being able to network with people you can’t network with offline is lost. Also, how do you make new friends if you do not risk opening up a little to someone who at some level is a stranger? On the other hand, if you add everyone, you are under some risk at least. No doubt all these sites have privacy settings, but all of them as we all know have loopholes. Is it advisable then to add everyone and wait till something drastic happens? While few of you may wonder what is wrong with me to say that something drastic will happen, others might agree that drastic things can actually happen. So, basically it is attitude that matters. It is your attitude that would make you think of one of the quotes as better than the other.

It is therefore, again your attitude that would tell you whether you would choose to have only a few friends on these online sites or to feel proud about having a whole two hundred!

Has anyone out there been fascinated with the thought of studying other people, getting to know secrets about other people, or making predictions about them? Quite fascinating isn’t it? So, to all you people who are interested, I have found quite a fun way to find out few little things. The answer is Facebook. However, the sad part is that you can learn snippets only about people who are on your Facebook list. But then, that is still interesting because you are still in the end getting to learn little interesting things which people do not tell you straight away.

So here’s how you do it. Firstly, go check the status messages of different people. You will know who is attention seeking and who is not. You will know who you need to pay attention to. This is really simple because those who would want to seek attention would definitely have status messages like ‘Why am I so stupid?’, ‘Am I that bad?’, or even simpler ones like just a sad smiley. All such messages are most of the time put up with the intention of getting questions like ‘What happened?’, or replies like ‘You are not bad at all’ to which the person will reply telling you all sorts of tales or rant about some miniscule thing which you would think does not matter at all. So when you see such messages, you quite know one characteristic about the person- attention seeking, if not always at least at that point of time.

Going on, check the person’s photos that he or she has posted and then those that others have posted of him or her. If all the albums and pictures are of the person looking nice, in different poses, all made up etc, then the person is highly conscious about his or her looks and is very capable of projecting a false image. If the pictures the person has posted are all pretty and picture perfect but the pictures put up by others are very normal then it could mean that the person does like to project a different picture of him or her but that is not the most important criteria. Friendship and interpersonal relations do matter to the person which is why he or she has not untagged himself or herself from the not so good looking pictures that others have posted. If both the person’s photos and the photos of the person have good okay or even an ugly picture, it means that the person is of a very genuine kind who doesn’t even bother to fake an appearance.

The numbers of friends people have, the number of applications people use, the amount of information they fill out or give out on their profile etc, again help you understand whether the individual is out going or reserved, is open to new experiences or is stuck to old methods and understanding, if the person is careful or not so bothered, etc.

All of the above do give out a certain amount of information about different persons so that you know how to deal with them, what to say and what not to say, or even how to react and how not to react. Similarly, if you look with a keen eye, Facebook and other such windows of social media give subtle hints towards the various features of a personality. So now, if you ever want to do some mind reading (just for fun please and not seriously) then you definitely know where to go.

Each one of you as a businessperson would love to and should know what others say about you, your business, your service and your products. This way you and your business turn out to be much more credible and efficient than whatever you have to say on just those topics itself, it shows that you are just claiming. However when it is said or written by someone else then it becomes more realistic. It is highly impossible to make too much use of the testimonials as they become a lot more powerful. It somehow carries more weight in the customers mind about your business.

Your business will compete against the others in the market if you make use of the collection of the relevant testimonials. It’s always said that if you have a nice and good testimonial then it can be twenty times more powerful than whatever you say. The fact is that these testimonials say more than what you can’t, and if you say those things then you’re going to be called an arrogant and self-serving person. By this perception your customer will not change views. Every kind of business uses testimonials to strengthen their marketing. Any good testimonial has two parts. The first one is the initial perception and the other is experience. The first one is a problem, it’s difficult and the second one is a positive result, usually the solution.

You must use testimonials as your strategic weapon. Fish out some time so that you can jot down the objections about your service and product that you would have come across. Make use of your testimonials to fight against the customers’ fears and thoughts of the mind. Next list out all the benefits that your service and product has made, collect all the testimonials so that you can verify and emphasize on the claims. These will help your claims change into facts.

As social creatures we must act in such a way that we can fit into other people’s behavior. Mostly we are dependent on them so that they can guide us on how to feel, think and act. We usually depend on other people’s thinking, if they say its correct then we follow the same thing they say. The more people are certain about it the more we connect with their certainty.

If there is more number of people signing petitions then we do it as well. Our behavior is hugely affected by the social proof. It’s a fact that just five percent of the people are initiators while the rest ninety five percent are imitators. This shows how testimonials effect others behavior. People who are in business make a way of using the social proof and its powerful effects. Usually the satisfied customer’s testimonials work better the prospective and the satisfied customer share same circumstances. So the key is finding a happy customer who can provide you with different range of business testimonials. If a testimonial is good then it will not just say nice things but will also influence a lot of people. This means that customers believe in testimonials more than they believe in you.

The aim of every internet business or website is to optimize search engine results whereby their website is displayed within the first few pages of the search engine results. Only if the website address is displayed will it be seen by prospective customers or clients who will then visit the web page. Site map submission is of prime importance in the world of internet based businesses and the use of social media for efficient site map submission is the best marketing tool any website owner can make use of.

Popular and big search engines require you to submit a detailed map of your website for inclusion in their indexes. Creating a site map means collecting all the information pertaining to all your WebPages in an organized database which can be easily comprehended by search engine spiders. The XML format is what is generally used to create site maps and it is uploaded into the particular root directory of your hosting server. The next step involves instructing the engines how to find your site map by entering the exact string location or by yourself directly uploading the file.

When you submit a site map directly you make the crawling and indexing job of the search engine fairly easy. When the submission is done the old fashioned way in the URL format the search engine has to first convert the information into database XML format on its own. This take a huge amount of time as millions of WebPages get submitted to search engines daily. By creating a unique map for your website you enable the search engine spiders to crawl over your web pages at a faster rate and that is exactly what these spiders want to do.

New kinds of interactive online communication in the form of social media are seen on the internet these days. Social media consists of social networking, social book marking, forums and blog posts. Social media is a great opportunity to promote your website and if you give details about your website map then you are reaching out to a wider target of people who could turn out to be future customers. The first thing you must do is to link your profile page to your website or webpage or place your website map on your profile page.

Social networking is deciphered as the constant social connection shared by infinite number of people through these social networking sites. Twitter and Face book are two of the most popular social networking sites and they are a great opportunity to your friends and contacts know about your site map. Social bookmarking is another crucial tool of social marketing where you can find, search, arrange and handle references to articles, video clips or websites. It is kind of a reference point from where people are directed towards the facts or information they are looking for. Making use of bookmarks to submit your website map is a great way of ensuring it is seen by people and they are directed towards your web page.

It really does not matter if you are a fresher in web designing or just making use of the services of any design company, it is always better and useful to learn the tips and tricks of web designing. They always come in handy.

Here are a few tips which should be learnt for effective designing;

Avoid cluttering, make it simple; you might know all the wonderful effects of fireworks Photoshop and other software, nevertheless you might just not make use of all those creativity. Many times users dislike too much of designs which look very cluttered, make sure you make simple and clear designs which are appealing to the eye. Make a good visual point where the users are provided with vital information. Make sure that the visuals and the text complement one another, so that they don’t overpower one another.

Ensure visual communication; try communicating your visuals to the users, ensure it’s not just for catching eye balls. Add colour to your images, like for instance, use green if you want to promote products that are bio-degradable, use red if it’s for Valentine’s Day, or if you’re a well established company then just use the usual corporate colours. Highlight by making visuals, using buttons for highlighting the links is better as it enables easier navigation; you have options of using thumbnails instead of text link. Make use of arrows and scrolls so that the users can view important links.

Make sure it’s rich in content; try giving content which is interesting so that the customers get attracted and come back again. The first time it should leave a lasting impression, however there should be relevant matter in your content. Always keep updating to make it look fresher, provide interesting information but keep it short and lively at the same time. Ask the readers for their comments and feedback.

Make sure the text is narrow: users find it very irritating to keep scrolling sideways to read the lines; therefore you can avoid this by keeping the layout narrow. This will avoid them from getting bored and continue their reading.

Ensure consistency; make you maintain consistency in the design in all your pages of the website. This will overwhelm the users and help them in finding information. Usage of the same colour on all web pages will look better and not cramped. Don’t use too many kinds of fonts, make sure they are readable, as small ones are difficult to read and big ones just strike the eye.

Oblige with the needs of the user; the internet has a million website which offer lots of information and attracting users is a big task, users may just not come back to your website, therefore to avoid this provide the needs of the users so that they keep visiting your site. Make sure your information is valuable and fresh with regular updates.

Use easier navigation: your navigation has to be crystal clear to keep your customers hooked to your website, reduce the search by providing important links. Keep checking if all your links are working well. A user can get very frustrated if the links don’t work and might just go to your competitor.

The success or failure of a company, especially an up and coming company that has to still establish in a market teeming with competition, depends largely on its visibility. Visibility is simply put, how much the customers and potential customers of the company are exposed to it and all its products. Visibility can be increased through good public relations strategies, and as the visibility increases, a definite, observable increase in sales can and will be noticed. In today’s world of the Internet, with social media being the catchword of the day, the customer base for every company has increased by millions, since the Internet has the capability to reach out to an immeasurable number of people – a number that could not have been dreamed of in the pre-Internet era of the world.

Within the Internet too, there are so many companies and products vying for customer attention that some innovative strategies need to be used in order to stand out amongst such a great number of competitors. Logo designing is one such innovative and highly effective way. A logo can be thought of as a representation of a company. Not only does a logo represent a company, it also represents the company’s ideals, policies and products. Besides that, logos catch attention better than detailed descriptions about the company, and they are retained in the memory for a longer span of time. Thus, a well designed logo can increase the company’s visibility both in the virtual world as well as the real world.

All successful logos have many common characteristics. For one, they are all very unique. That is, none of them even remotely resembles any other popular logo, thus preventing any brand confusion on the part of the customers. They also are bright and eye-catching. This is what ensures that any potential customer can find it in a web page crowded with other competing logos. Logos should also, in at least one way, be directly related to the company’s name, and not be completely arbitrary. This ensures that they are easily remembered and easily associated with the name of the company.

People who design logos should also make sure that they are neither too small nor too big. If the logo is too small, it will pass completely unnoticed. If it is too big, it will look ungainly and will tend to put off customers. Thus, one of the most important aspects of logos are that they should be aesthetically pleasing, that is, they should go easy on the eye of the customer. The other aspect, which is as important, is the message it conveys. For example, a logo of a company that works for environment conservation should be in green, and should contain some aspects of the environment in it so that the message of the company is clearly put across.

Finally, once the logo is made, it should be put through a practical test to see if it fulfills its functions or not. The best way to do this is to give it a good amount of PR, especially on line, in social media sites, and the monitor its exposure. Exposure can be monitored through various ways, such as observing the number of hits on a website that hosts the logo, or observing the number of times the logo is clicked on. If the number is substantial, it is proof enough that the logo is a success.

Graphic designing first started in ancient caverns and caves, they made paintings drawings etc. it is a creative innovation, which is a mixture of words with different shapes colors designs and innovative technology and art. Graphic designing these days involves special techniques and involves printing; together they have become multi phenomenal. There has been great development in the modern graphics with completely different concepts. The classical concept lacked creativity and ideas.

Graphic designer is supposedly the associate of the technical development. It has been developing in different kind of media in form of catalogue, poster, pamphlet, brochure website etc and lots more media groups. It has been ruling the computer as well it has many practical uses and it’s being used in different programs like handwriting, pictures, and colors. There has been lot of development in promotions, communication, presentation etc. it is deeply involved in digital media.

Everyone likes their service o product to shine, sparkle and get noticed. But a little hard work goes into attaining that. Good graphic designing can be the foundation. Graphic design should be such that it magnetizes the customers, it must completely impress them. Make sure you first choose a good graphic designer who can accomplish your needs and requirements. It’s very difficult to choose the right one as nowadays everyone is so good at it.

Graphic designing can be a little confusing, making the right preferences. However below a few elements of designs that can help you are selecting the right portfolio.

Emotional response; spend some of your time looking at their work and see if it’s how you want it and if it matches your expectations. Your impressive emotional reaction gives you the feeling of buying and acting on it. Review it carefully. Find out your emotional response.

Usage of white space: using white space is the highest consideration of graphic designing. Do lots of examining of the amount of pieces of graphic designing in the portfolio of the designer. Check if there is enough space in the surrounding or if the place is much cluttered and don’t know where to look. See if the designer has used the white space in the right manner as that’s a big talent. Ask yourself if you’re choosing the right designer.

Examples that are easy to understand and simple: the experience must be very easy and simple to understand. Competing communication does not get noticed for graphic designing.

Graphics with sense and uniquely bold: the processing of marbles is visual. Visual examples are very important, usually a lot more sober than lyrics. The graphics of the task for your consideration must be bold and clear. See if you got any experience. Find out if all the visuals are different and it does not give you an impression of something seen and old. See if the designer has used images which look similar to what others do, is the message unique and good.

Use of effective fonts: always use the right styles and fonts so that it looks something different.
